Shirley Limoges, Bernalee Pugs, resides in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Shirley, a breeder-
judge is approved to Judge by the Canadian Kennel Club. Shirley began showing dogs
when she was fourteen, when her great uncle, a former president of the Canadian
Kennel Club started taking her to dog shows with him. She did not acquire her first Pug
until 1962, and she cites the breed’s “wonderful, outgoing, cheerful temperament” as
what most attracts her.
Over the past twenty-six years she has bred approximately twenty litters and has never
campaigned a Pug. Despite the small scale of her program she has bred and showed
four generations of Winners Bitches at American specialties, and two of these bitches
were also Best of Winners.
In Shirley Limoges’s opinion the Pug has improved steadily over the years, with minor
problems becoming apparent periodically. She is pleased to see that most breeders are
attempting to breed Pugs of correct size and most thankful that breed temperament has
been maintained, as this has not been the case in many breeds
